Carcharodontosaurus (kar-kar-o-DON-to-sawr-us) "sharp-toothed Lizard" (Greek karcharo- = sharp-pointed + odonto- = teeth = sauros = lizard

An Early Cretaceous CARNOSAUR whos FOSSILS were found in Northern Africa. This two-legged meat eater is known only from a few bones and TEETH. It probably resembled MEGA-LOSAURUS, but it was somewhat smaller - about 26 feet (8m) long. It had elongated SPINES on its neck vertebrae that may have served as places of attachment for the extra-strong muscles needed to hold up its enormous head. Its teeth were less curved than those of most carnosaurs.
