Say hello to: DIMETRODON

DIMETRODON (dy-MET-ro-don) "Two-measure Teeth" (Greek di = two + metron = measure + odon = tooth, referring to the fact that it had TEEETH of two different sizes

Not a DINOSAUR, but a PELYCOSAUR, an ancestor of the mamallike REPTILES. Dimetrodon had a great sail 2 to 3 feet (60 to 90 cm) high along its back. This sail may have helped regulate its body temperature. Dimetrodon was 10 feet (3 m) long and was a four-legged CARNIVORE. It is the largest-known meat eater of the PERMIAN PERIOD. It had become EXTINCT by the begining of hte MESOZOIC ERA. Its FOSSILS have been found in Texas
